1001 Drawings #376, Re-Creation of Flowers

Check out my Etsy store, Whitty Arts for some of my featured creations.

I am always reworking pieces of art I have done into new pieces of art. I call this art, re-creations.The one above was originally a digital creation. I looked at it the other day and thought what would it look like in ink and colored pencil. I hope you like the look. Oh by the way God does the same for us when we give our lives to him. He takes one of His pieces of art, an original creation in every way, and re-creates us in His image. A new creation. A new piece of art.

1001 Drawings #370, A Colorful Fantasy

I love to draw using color. Offered here is a one of my many fantasy drawings using layers of colored pencil to bring the drawing to life. As Christians our life is anything but dull. We live and worship a God who is the very creator of color. In life adding a little color can brighten up your world.

1001 Drawings #317, My Old Street

I have discovered the older I get the more life is not about accumulating stuff but is more about family. Each day that goes by we need to grab hold of those we love and cherish and celebrate life together. So as the holidays rapidly approach spend time with those who matter.

Daily Drawing #222, The Dog Days of Summer

What are the dog days of summer? The answer comes from Dictionary.Com, “the sultry part of the summer, supposed to occur during the period that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time as the sun: now often reckoned from July 3 to August 11. a period marked by lethargy, inactivity, or indolence.” The reason for the lethargy and inactivity is the heat. When it is hot it is hard to be moving around. I was in Las Vegas this year and the temp out there when I went averaged out to 115 degrees. I know it is a dry heat but to me it was still hot. My wife and I managed to push through the heat and have a great time. In life there are going to be times when the heat is turned up. The key to getting through these times and not become inactive or lethargic is to pray and seek God’s strength to help you remain sure footed. The dog days will always come but they don’t have to last.

Daily Drawing #212, So You Think You Want to Dance

I don’t usually like to admit this but I am a fan of Dancin’ With the Stars. What I like about the show is when a star is a true amateur. They are the complete underdogs and must learn and learn and learn some more. Even with all their practice most of those contestants don’t not make it it into the finals. Still the amateur contestants are an inspiration. They show me with a little dedication and a lot of practice you may not win the contest but you will learn something new which can ultimately be a lot of fun and enriching.

In my life I have always loved but I never had any collegiate training. Still I keep practicing and practicing as I learn the craft of creating art. I may never earn a living creating my artwork but my joy comes in putting it out there for others to see. This I think is my calling from God, the reason He gave me the gift of being an artist. I hope you try something new this year. Something you have never done before like playing an instrument. The key is once you start don’t give up, but keep practicing.

Daily Drawing #190, Create A Good Character, Read the Book

As an artist one of my favorite things to do is create a character. In this one the goal was to create a fantasy portrait. I used an old magazine ad to get my characters hair and hat and then drew in the face. She is meant to be an half elf character from a rough novel I wrote years ago. While I like the picture I am also reminded in order to build our character we can either seek our many self help books on the topic at the library or else choose the one book which has character building advice throughout the pages. The book of course is the Bible. Just reading the book of Proverbs can offer you life advice for each area of your life and that is just one book in the Bible. So go and get your Bible, open it up and start reading. The best time for getting your character drawn is now.

Daily Drawing #188, You Take the Beach Dear, I’ll Have the Boardwalk

Since my drawing a couple of days ago was the beach I returned today with my little girl and cat at the boardwalk. Growing up I lived forty five minutes from Seaside Park, NJ so I spent some time on the boardwalk. My favorite time to be there was in September when the crowds were gone but the shops and arcades were still open. These were the days before we became recluses playing our games in the phone or a gaming system. I loved the sounds of the arcade, bells clanging, coins going in the slots and much more.I miss those days. Today when I go to the boardwalk in just doesn’t have the same appeal. It is overcrowded and overpriced. In life I guess we must always hold onto our memories because just like everything else they may fade with the passing of time.
