Doodle 117, Green Weeds, White Flowers

The drawing prompt for today is the word “green.” I chose to draw a piece entitled, “Green Fields, White Weeds.” The piece is an abstract watercolor with some colored pencil highlights. Behind the house I grew up in there was a big field. In the summertime the field had weeds which grew real tall. Among the weeds were tall white flowers. This is inspiration for my drawing.

The field was alive with all manner of creatures hiding in the weeds some of which were field rats. I remember several times where one of my cats was squared off against one of those rats almost as big as the cat. Even with all the creatures my friends and I knew were lurking among the weeds we were not afraid to cut across the field to get where we wanted to go. Maybe it was a little naivete of us but we didn’t care.

In our adult lives often times there are fields of weeds we must cross in order to get where we need to go. We cannot cross those fields blindly. We must proceed with caution ever vigilant of what is lurking among the weed. The Bible says in Proverbs 14:16, “The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence.” Good advice to remember at all times.

Daily Timeout for Art

girl-with-flowers

The final theme for February was gold. I could have gone in a lot of directions with this one but instead I chose to go with a piece entitled “Golden Haired Girl and Her Flowers.” The piece is a simple one done in colored pencil.

chicken

The challenge for today offered up a side of eggs. I started out doing a couple of eggs sunny side up but saw a picture of a chicken looking quizzically at it’s eggs sitting in a basket. My picture entitled “Chicken and the Eggs,” takes a lighthearted looked at a chicken waiting for the eggs to hatch.

While I have come a long way on over a month and half of drawing I still feel I have a long way to go with my art. I would love to incorporate more color and take my drawings to the next level where my art is more artist worthy and less of a doodle. Today’s offering for the daily art/ drawing challenge is one based on shells. At first I was going to do sea shells but came across a picture of a “Giant Turtle and Babies” which I did in a simple pen drawing with highlights of color.

rocks

It took me a while to settle on what kind of drawing to do for today’s challenge which if you haven’t guessed by now is rocks.  The piece entitled simple “Rocks” comes from a picture I took of a rock formation surrounded by flower I snapped in Montgomery County. I can’t say I am totally enamored with the final effort but I like the overall look.

Daily Timeout for Art # 45

leaves-2

Today’s challenge was to draw some leaves. I didn’t want to draw just a tree so I decided to draw just a couple of leaves with the city behind. The piece entitled “The Last Leaves of Fall,” looked different in my mind then how it turned out. I drew the piece and then highlighted it with pen and filled in some of the details with colored pencil. I then touched up the picture digitally. Someday in the future I plan to revisit it, maybe redo it in acrylics or pastels.

ballons

Today’s challenge was to draw a rainbow. I went through a number of idea with putting rainbows in different landscape scenes but thought to myself “how usual.” I decided to take a simple pen drawing of a women holding some balloons and add some color. The piece is entitled “Rainbow of Balloons.”
