#23 The Better Place

I dreamed of a better place

Just the other night

Where people were full of joy

What a beautiful sight

Wish it were true, don’t you

Wish it were true, don’t you

I saw no pain, no suffering

No evil words came my way

Everyone danced to the tune

Of a brand new day

Wish it were true, don’t you

Wish it were true, don’t you

Everyone knew each other

Each was a friend to all

War ceased to be a problem

Love

“Love what?” Gilliam thought to himself. He looked around the literature classroom. Not one of his so- called classmates in the room cared for him. They all said he was different. His true friends were the geeks and freaks. He let out a sigh…”How was he to become their protector. How was he going to learn to love them unconditionally?

Gilliam looked up at the clock. The bell should be ringing any second now. He shoved his notebook in his backpack and threw it over his shoulder.

The bell rang. “Finally,” Gilliam muttered to himself.

“Hey, Gilliam still writing that crap poetry?” Shouted Josh as he walked out the door.

“Yeah, man, find something more manly.” Chimed in Keith.

A few more chuckles and the classroom was empty. He stood up to go to his next class.

“Better hurry or you’re going to be late for class.” Said Mr. Lewis the Literature teacher.

Gilliam looked at him. “Yeah I know…I’ll make it.

“Oh, and Gilliam don’t let those guys get to you. Keep writing your poetry.”

“Where I come from it’s almost a requirement.” Gilliam smiled and left the room.

Gilliam left the literature classroom and turned left in the crowded hallway. A school with over 4,000 students was a perfect place for a guardian angel to reside in order to bring protection

#15 The Prom

“The prom, not another word about the prom. That’s not for people like us.”

“Why, Tommy?”

“We come from the poor side of town…we don’t fit in with the rich Jolene.”

“But….”

“Don’t you think I want to go? There is not a girl I know who will say yes.”

“Have you asked anyone?”

“No, Jolene I haven’t.

“Well then how do you know the girl will turn you down?”

“Jolene, just drop it.”

“Here comes Jennie, ask her.”

“What, no way. She’s out of my league.”

“Tommy, I’ll call her over….hey Jennie.”

“No…”

“Here she comes…”

“Why did you do that?” Tommy whispered.

Jennie strolled over to where they stood. “What’s up guys?”

Tommy remained silent. Jennie was out of his league.

Jolene looked at Tommy. “Ask her.”

“Ask me what?” Jennie looked from Jolene to Tommy.

Tommy met Jennie’s gaze. In his heart he knew the answer to the question on his lips. So it didn’t matter?, “Would you go to prom with me?”

“Well.”

Here it comes Tommy thought.

“I thought you and Jolene would be going together.”

Tommy looked at Jolene. He’d never thought of asking her. “Would you?”

Jolene smiled, “Yes.”

It was going to be weird

#471 Faith, Hope and Love

Today’s offering is an 11×14 acrylic paints rendered on a flat panel canvas. In life I think we have three things which are highly important.

1. Faith to carry us through the bad times and to share n matter what happens.

2. Hope which the Bible says is “set before us,” Hebrews 6:18

3. Love which was given to us to share.

Take hold of these three things and life will not necessarily be smoother but the bumps become so much smaller in scope.

#384 Loves Comes Down Redo

Every so often I like to revisit a piece of art I’ve done before and change it in some way. I added more color to this drawing using water colors and color pencil. I also used a fixatif spray in order to brighten the colors. I hope you like the new version.

1001 Drawings #378, Let The Heart Be Ever A Present

I have always tried to treat others in the way I wanted to be treated. I decided to live my life this way back in high school where others in my class of 76 at Bensalem High School and my neighborhood treated me differently because I did not fit into their mold. I decided then and there to let my heart ever be a present to other. Put another way, I wanted to show others love no matter what. I would hold not biases, no restrictions. I hope each of us who call ourselves Christians would do the same.

1001 Drawings #332, A Silhouette of Love

Love is a verb which means it is not stagnant but always moving. Here are some Bible verses about love:

Ephesians 4:2: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

1 Peter 4:8: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

John 15:12: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”

Notice theses verses are all about loving others and in the last verse Jesus commands us to love others. So at this time of year and all throughout the year let not our love be a silhouette but full fledged love others can see. and feel.
