Daily Drawing #259, Take Care of Unfinished Work

An artist’s life is all about unfinished work, some of it is intentional some of it is because creative ideas at times flow fast and furious. I have found there are times I must put aside new projects in order to take care of unfinished work. That is what I plan to do with some of my creations from this blog. In the New Year I plan to revisit a few of my drawing and finish them or redo them in a different medium. I have also our daily lives are the same as our art lives, we begin a lot of projects with good intentions of because we thought we could get them done.

Then when something else comes along we put the project aside for something new. We should however endeavor to finish all that we start in order to get in the habit of finishing what we’ve started. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 8:11 says, “So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have.” Life is not only about finishing the journey we’ve started but also finishing it well.

Daily Drawing #226, Watching the World Go Bye

When I was old enough to drive my friends and I would go to our local mall to play arcade games at the Space Port. During our game downtime we would get a soda and a dog at the Pampered Pup and sit down to watch the people stroll on by. I would be respite if I didn’t mention we made comments to each other about the way people were dressed or their hairstyles or any number of other things. I think watching the people was more fun than playing the video games. Even to this day, as an artist I love to go to a park, a mall and other public places just to  sit and just watch people walk around. There are a lot of interesting people out there to sketch. So grab a pencil, an art pad and get on out there. After all plein air sketching is all the rage these days.

Daily Drawing #213, A Human And Their Pets

Millions of Americans love their pets. They spend billions of dollars each year taking care of their pet’s needs. In my lifetime I have had many pets. Most of the pets I owned were cats or should I say I was the cats personal care giver instead? Every cat that has graced my home has had a unique personality but have all had one thing in common, their attachment me. Cats show love differently then do dogs.

The dogs I have owned are always there when I open the door, wagging their tails with what looks like a grin on their faces. Cats love by gracing you with their presence every once in a while or letting you know they need something like food or their litter box changed. I currently don’t have any pets but would love to get another cat someday. My drawing entitled, “A Wizard and His Dragon. is dedicated to all pet owners out there no matter what the type of pet you have. I hope you like the drawing.

Daily Drawing #203, Enjoy A Quiet Picnic with Your Friends

Today’s drawing entitled, “Goin’ On A Picnic,” is offered as a piece of advice. Life is hard, we work, work, work and then work some more without ever really taking some time for ourselves. The problem is God designed us as being who need to rest once in a while. the easiest and cheapest way I know to do this is to gather family and friends together and go to a local or state park and have a picnic. Picnics are fun. There is a lot of food, fellowship and of course relaxation. So if you’re reading this right now, take the advice and plan pot luck picnic with fun and games. Oh, if you don’t know what pot luck means, it is where everyone brings some food or drink to share.

Daily Drawing #200, Deep Roots Keep You Secure

I just read a daily devotion about the sequoia tree and how there enormous root system anchor the tall trees so they do not topple over during a wind storm. On the flip side are trees like the pine trees in my back yard. Their root system is not as deeply rooted into the ground so when the rains and high winds come I worry about the trees toppling over. The Bible says in Proverbs 12:3, that, ” the root of the righteous will never be moved.” In our lives our faith must be rooted like the sequoia tree so when the winds and the rain buffet our lives we will not be shaken or toppled over like the pine tree. It also comes without saying the roots we build with our church families must also be deep so when we need support they are there for us. The title of today’s drawing is of course, “The Deeply Rooted Tree.”

 

 

Daily Drawing #198, Celebrate Your Freedom to Art

There are many times as artists where we pigeon hole ourselves into one style or one medium of art. It is what we know so we naturally stick with what we know. As I have progressed through this art challenge I have tried to make sure to delve into new mediums, new styles of art. I have learned to enjoy my freedom to art. Today’s piece, while not as colorful as a Dr Seuss picture is my first attempt at a fantasy landscape. The piece is entitled, “Dilbo in the Wilderness.” I hope to do more drawing in this style in the future. Until tomorrow feel free to art.

Daily Drawing  #189, When in Doubt, Take A Hike

The prompt for today was the word, “solitude.” You wouldn’t know it if you saw me but I am a very introverted person so at times I enjoy my solitude and what better way to get alone but to take a hike. A short walk along a trail, a quiet road, along the beach or any place in nature is a reminder of the Creator as His creation unfolds before you. Just gazing at His workmanship helps my doubts slip away so  mind can be free of the worries of the day. Alone time, on a hike, can also give you time to converse with God. Yes I said converse, not in just prayer but also by talking to God who the Bible tells us is, “close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me” (Psalms 23:4 NLT.)
