3 Reasons I Like To Use A Limited Palette Challenge

I am the type of artist who likes to use color in my paintings. In fact the brighter the better. However there are times when I enjoy limiting my palette to just several colors. Here are three reasons why.

1. I love the challenge. A little palette of colors offers more of a challenge in order to to create a finished a painting.

2. The outcome is dramatic. In the end the outcome is more dramatic. This is the reason I like black and white Ansel Adams photographs.

3. Less colors I have to fuss over. A limited palette means you have less colors to use but you need more of your muse in order to create a finished work of art.

Take the limited palette challenge. It is very rewarding.

This drawing is another of my 6×9 paintings. The painting was created using oil pastels and a #2 pencil on a piece of Strathmore paper. Someone once said, I don’t know who, that in order to love what you do you have to do what you live. I love art and would love to work as an artist full time. The fear have is this, too much of a good thing is not always a good thing. In other words would art lose its appeal. I don’t know but I would sure love to find out. So ends my wisdom for today.

A 6×9 piece of wall art done in a mixed media of colored pencil and oil pastel. The lady is a reminder to us all that we can’t always see what is ahead of us in life. This is why we must always put our trust and faith in God to carry us along and through whatever comes our way.

EThis is another redo drawing from last year. I used soft pastels to add more color to the drawing. I enjoyed doing this one. A sad little doll who travels the world but never gets to enjoy the benefits. It reminds me of a Christian who lives their life never knowing the joy of serving God because all they do is sit in their pew or look out a window but never step out in service. Don’t be that Christian. Get up and get out.

I have recently started to look at the same subject’s in different ways. In art I guess they call it a set. This new painting done in soft pastel’s takes the candle and pairs it with some wine glasses and a bottle. This helps give me a better understanding of composition and aesthetics. In life however I try to look at everything through the word of God. It is only with the word of God that everything about this world and my place in it will become clear.

I love to draw and paint old quaint buildings like this small church. They are reminders to me of s simpler time when bigger was not always better and better meant you were always striving to be your best. It seems today many churches, in order to appeal to the masses and grow their churches have tweaked the truth. I have peace in the knowledge that yes Jesus wants our best but we are not to change a one iota of the message in order to appear better.

 

 

 

#386 Lost Coin Found

In the Bible there is a parable about a woman who loses a coin. The woman then spends time seeking the coin and when she finds it she rejoices. The parable shows God’s love for us. The lost coin I believe represents a sinner who then comes to a saving faith in Jesus. I also think it opens up to us a look into our lives and what we see as important. Many times we seek after earthly treasures and when we get them we rejoice but we spend very little time seeking after the One true God. What we need to do is switch our priorities.
