Art Lying Down or Standing Up

I do most of my artwork lying down. No I don’t mean me personally. I mean the canvas I’m using at the moment. I almost always have it flat on my art table. The odd thing is when I’m creating I will strand the painting up to judge whether or not I like it uop tot that point.

While there are some advantages to the lying down method, like less strain on my old arms and joints. I have some shoulder issues which cause me some pain when I keep my arm up for long periods of time.  Another plus is I also don’t have to worry about paint runoff.

Still I feel like I’m missing something by not painting or drawing with my canvas on an easel. When I’ve used an easel or propped by sketch book up in the past it has helped me see the angles and lines better on such things as portraits.

What do you think? Is it better to create lying down or standing up and why?

#460 Some Purple Flowers

I created this piece using a yellow piece of 9×12 card stock using soft pastels and pen highlights. I started this piece over a year ago and hen sat it aside. I came back to it and added the flowers and leaves. I guess persistence pays off especially in the art world. God calls us to remember that life is not a sprint. No, live is a marathon which requires us to endure the long run ahead of us. The key as Paul points out is to run the race set before us with joy. This requires us to be persistent and not turn from God.

#402 Cat on a Pole

While not my best piece of art there was something about the picture that I had to try and do my version. The piece was created on a piece of tan cardstock using soft pastels. I hope you enjoy it.

#401 A Vase of Flowers

I forgot how much color you can get out soft pastels. This new painting Vase of Flowers has the rich colors I was looking for but still is not completely what I was looking to achieve. Art I have discovered is releasing and creating. The more you don’t try the more the more the mind opens up and creates. The life of a Christian is similar. The more we try to please God under our own power the more in constricts what God has in mind. We need to in simple terms and I don’t like to use this phrase…”Let go and let God.” That means to stop trying to please God and live life for God.
