#506 Picking Flowers

My twist on an older painting I saw. I was trying to practice my observation skills…i.e learning to see things more for details than just looking. The drawing was done with a #2 pencil on an 8×10 white piece of paper and then the flowers were highlighted with color pencil. I am taking a course on studying the Bible and one of the things I learned is this read the passage, read round the passage, read the passage some more. Once you have done this go back and keep reading it until God and the Holy Spirit make it clear what you need to be learning from reading the passage. It is funny how art sometimes translates into life. In art you must, look, look and then look some more .until you see what needs to be created.

1001 Drawings, #322 All Dressed Up

Yesterday I talked about how we see the other people around us. Today I want to mention how we see ourselves. The Bible tells us we are to think of ourselves to highly lest we concreted and fall away. The Bible also tells us not to think of yourself lest you fall into despair. Me, while I am not what I would call handsome or athletic I like to think of myself as a child of God. This view helps me find my place in this world.

1001 Drawings #316, A Girl’s Best Friend

I grew up wanting to be a cartoonist. While I am no Charles Schultz from time to time I like to draw a cartoon just for old times sake. The cartoon today is entitled “A Girl’s Best Friend.” The reason for the drawing is that many times is life we come across a friend who like a girl and a dog which on the surface do not go together. I have known many like that over the years. One of those is our relationship with God. On the surface how can a totally Holy God have any friendship with beings who are mentioned in the Bible many times as sinful. The answer is Jesus. He is the one who came over two thousand years ago to be the bridge to a friendship with God. Don’t take my word read the Bible, examine it and then decide for yourself.

1001 Drawings #315, Just Hanging Around

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Acts 1:11, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” The reason it is one of my favorites is because it a reminder to me that many times as followers of Jesus we’re just hanging around doing nothing when all around us there is God’s work to be done.

I started this blog because I didn’t want to be one who was just hanging around waiting for God to do something for me. I wanted to be one who stepped out and used his craft to further the work of God here on earth. This is why I draw and try to better my craft. If you’re one who is still hanging around. Try to find out what you’re good at and use your gift for God’s glory. Believe me it will bring joy to your heart.

1001 Drawings #314, My Life As A Cat

There are days I envy cats. They don’t have to toil their days away at jobs they may or may not like. They get to sleep as much as they want during the day not having to tap an alarm clock at 5:30 AM. They get waited on hand and foot by owners who don’t realize they are being scammed into thinking they are in charge not the cat. Our little feline companions sure do have to seem it all. While a cats and dogs life for that matter seem to be good there is one important thing they don’t have…the ability to use our time at work or at home serving God. So the next time you start to envy your pets, remember you are serving God right where and when you are.

Daily Drawing #309, Cabin In The Woods

I was born in West Virginia so have a fondness for all things to do with the mountains like a cabin in the woods. This is not to say I want to live in the mountains but I would love to visit and stay there for a few days at a time. The Bible tells us that all off God’s creation cries out His existence. This is one of the reasons I like the mountains because when I am deep in His creation I feel close to God.

Daily Drawing #307, Catch A Falling Star

When I was young you could find me on many nights looking up into the sky looking for falling stars. I believed in the old adage when you wish upon a falling star your wishes would come true. Since many of those wishes didn’t come true I guess I can give some of them away.

Like Charlie Brown I wished the girl who lived across the street from me would see me as her boyfriend. I wished to be one of the cool people at school. I wished to be good at something. These were only many of the wishes which went unanswered.

I know now many years later life is not about wishing on stars but putting your faith and trust in Jesus. He is the one who has the wisdom to guide me through life in order to avoid many of the pitfall which normally strike.
