Today’s offering is an 11×14 acrylic paints rendered on a flat panel canvas. In life I think we have three things which are highly important.
1. Faith to carry us through the bad times and to share n matter what happens.
2. Hope which the Bible says is “set before us,” Hebrews 6:18
3. Love which was given to us to share.
Take hold of these three things and life will not necessarily be smoother but the bumps become so much smaller in scope.
At certain points in my life I have felt like one of the little people. No not a short person but one who at social gatherings or events feel like they don’t belong in that certain situation. All that changed when I accepted Jesus as my Savior. I learned then that there are no little people in God’s eyes. Rich or poor, butcher or baker, or the candle stick maker we are the same when we get to Heaven. There is no buying your way in. The price is bowing the knee and declaring your all in for Jesus.
If you haven’t guessed by now I am embroiled in 25 days of Christmas themed drawings. The latest of these drawings is an elf. There are many aspects of Christmas which while not a part of the true Christmas story are part of our cultural Christmas season. The problem we have as Christians is not forgetting the truth of Christmas as we sometimes get wrapped up in all the other trappings of the holiday season, the shopping, the glitter, the shopping, the packed malls and stores among others.
Here is another in the handful of self portraits I have done. This however does not have a face for a very good reason. In life we all want to be something other then another face in the crowd. We want to matter, be popular, succeed in life. I wanted in growing, until a few years ago. I learned a lesson one day. What matters in life is not to be or famous, popular or successful. It is more satisfying to be the faceless one who helps those who need the most help not just at this time of year but all year long. Time is a fleeting thing. Why bot use what little time were given in giving back?
I am not entirely sure what a walkabout is but I know it has do to with a spiritual journey. As followers of Jesus we are all a life long walk about. Each day of the journey we need to seek to come closer to God through our service and desire to help others with whom we come in contact. As this holiday season starts with Thanksgiving and marches on to Christmas and New Years let us seek to serve more, love others unconditionally and pass on the joy which is set before us on our walkabout.
In the high school I work at I come in contact with a variety of people. Some of them have developed their own styles or looks. the sad commentary on our society is that we judge many of those we come in contact with by what we see. I have learned from early on in life not to make a decision about anyone by how they may choose to dress or look. I always seek to know a person’s heart where the truth of a who a person is lies. So my advice is to try and do the same. Seek to get to know someone whom you might have otherwise not have any interest to know.
Well it is that time of year again…fall, Autumn. Whatever you call it, the winds of change are blowing through. There is a new chill in the air. When I was a kid I got excited about this time of year because it meant Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas were not far off. Now as I sit here with another decade almost in the rear view mirror the chill in the air means more blankets on the bed, the air conditioners get removed from the windows and the coats and sweatshirts come out. Oh well, at least I have the coming holidays.
